Kelley dreams of classic cars
Big hair and loud guitars
She's stuck in midwest blue, paying rent that's way past due
Never living for love so run
Kelley run
You don't learn anymore, you just lay on the floor
waiting for the answers to come, waiting on the world to get wider
Winona Rider leaves you breathless and bored
when reality bites
and you realize
that holding on to youth
wasn't all that you thought it would be
Lately, I've been
Having these dreams of holding hands and walking down the Stoney Creek sands
and Kelley let go of, Everything that holds you down there's no way you were ever meant for this town
Oh but Kelley
you hold on tighter you grab your lighter and have another cigarette
feeling strong you stomp it out on the pavement
Grab your coat, head the the door, turn the key, foot to the floor
Turn up the radio and drive Kelley drive Kelley drive
Lately, I've been
Having these dreams of holding hands and walking down the Stoney Creek sands
and Kelley let go of, Everything that holds you down there's no way you were ever meant for this town
Run Kelley run

Queen of the Indies

Took a long ride together
We saw birds fly
In grey skies
It all felt like a dream
We were dancing just an hour ago
Before you passed out in the street
I can't feel your heart beat
I can't stand on my feet
But I can feel you leaving, your body in the ambulance, but you were left on the street
Oh my queen is gone, gone for so long
as thats left is your bloody cigarettes
my hearts hole, her old home
I just wanna let your memory go
And every time I look outside that window I see a spot in the road where you rest your head as you took your last breath and I can't move on until they take down that sign that reads "in memory of"
There's all these Mourners at my door bottles on the floor
Half written love songs from nights before
This house is elegantly haunted, like roses in a coffin, I just wanna say goodbye, I never said goodbye
Fade away, you can't stay, as much as I need you
I wanna be free, but always chained to what I learned from you

Blue

f I could take you out tonight
I know just what I'd do
Bring you down to the water
Watch your eyes turn blue
And you'd say this breeze is kind
As the sun sets the moon would rise
And we'd dance to the tides
Let our love keep us up all night, up all night
You live slowly
With your old money
You're chained and happy
But dream of better days
I'm a chance, you won't take
You don't love him, you won't say
I don't know if you and I deserve this
Or if all of this is worth it
Baby let your eyes turn blue
Live for once on a whim
Don't think at all just let it in
Be in love, stare at stars
Feel the fire, crash a car
In your summer dress I'll hold you close
We'll brace the heat of Mexico
We can run, forever young
For once do what you want
I want a house by a lake
Where I can sleep outside
In the summer
I wanna drive to the city be drunk enough just to remember
Being on a rooftop letting my right hand wander
For the first time I see the future, and I'm pretty sure it's with you
What do you want
I think I know

Heart

Do I love you?
is that a fact?
If I love you
it’ll last
But it takes some faith
To believe in waiting
I’m running round with her empty heart
If I love you
That will never be enough
You say you don’t feel anymore
I think you don’t wanna hurt like before
Because the blood was too much for you
You were young and love was cruel
If I love you now, and you’re broken down, I can’t patch the holes he made in you
I’ll wait till your heart is whole
If time is what you need, then take it all
I know what it means to love you
It was all just words when I was young
You gotta love yourself before you ever love someone

two feet.

I've never felt happier than when I played baseball
with a bat in my hand, I smiled summer through fall
the sun-fueled, twitch-snap of my hips and wrists, one perfect hit
everything quiet except for the whirring seams, the kiss of bat to ball and big-league dreams
I've never felt more a true part of life the when a ball hit just over the shortstop's head rolls to the wall and I ge to run
Oh how beautiful it is to run, the crack of the bat like a mallet to gong
As I'm rounding the bag the air in my lungs starts to burn
And I realize
My ambition for home is lofty
And I could stand on second softly
But I will sprint for a triple and give it a try, lay it out on the line, full force I slide but the ball gets by and I spring to my feet there's a play at the play and I'm out by two feet
These are the nights I believe in Jesus Christ
Only nights where I forget the stories I'm told, but when my heart feels full I believe in the feeling
I don't believe in the long hair and the robes, I don't believe in the people in pews aligned in a row, I don't believe in rosary or confession or tales of damned souls
But I believe in love, I believe in unity, and I believe in baseball
Because baseball is a part of America which I love dearly
And America is a place where I love freely
America stuns, America wows, American guns, America now
These are not values of my America
My America falls in love splitting french fries at Dimitiri's diner
My America sits in the passenger seat singing songs till she's tired
My America runs through the last hope of sunshine on a summer day
to squeeze out every ray, every glimmer of hope that the sun won't go away, So my America will get to stay
In my America I am at home
I feel calm
I feel warm
My America has never faught a war or drawn a sword
My America speaks softly without scorn
My America wants a family
My America wants to dream
My America loves baseball
My America has Ice cream on the tip of her nose
Yes, my America is not a government, but my America has faults
Sometimes she'll break a heart
Sometimes she'll steal a car
Sometimes she'll take your kids and the love you once had, but she gave you a life and she made you a dad, so don't be mad a t America, don't Admit defeat, there's a play at the plate and your out by two feet.
